FaceTime is another example of technology Apple designed for everyone that has had a significant impact on persons with disabilities; in this case, those who are deaf or hard of hearing.
This application is setting the video calling standard among those who use sign language or read lips. FaceTime brings the deaf community a step closer to telecom equality with the ability to have near real-time conversations - no typing, no interpreters, no lag-time.
You can chat using FaceTime on any Mac OS X or iOS device with a front-facing camera. As applications develop across platforms, FaceTime will become the de facto communications standard for deaf and HOH people.
FaceTime and iChat already make TTY technology feel as forgotten as the telegraph. The application is free with Mac OS X Lion.
