Carroll Center for the Blind to Host iOS App Camp

Carroll Center for the Blind

The Carroll Center for the Blind (Newton, Mass) will host an Accessible iOS App Camp from Aug. 13-17, 2012.

The camp is geared towards middle- and high school students who are blind or visually impaired. No experience with Apple iOS products is necessary.

Hands-on instruction will cover multiple mobile devices and will include training on Apple's two main built-in accessibility apps: the VoiceOver screen reader and Zoom magnification.

Other iPhone functions to be explored include: how to find and download apps, playing audiobooks, music, and podcasts; web browsing; how to send and receive email; GPS navigation; and using the camera to scan print materials to read such things as menus, bar cords, and currency.

Students will also learn how to play games, interact using social networking sites, make phone calls, and send text messages.
