Was glad to see National Braille Press ranked 5th on OnlineUniversities.com's list of "25 Inspiring Literacy Projects Around the World."
The list honors literacy initiatives at all levels that seek to build a better educated, healthier, and more prosperous society by promoting knowledge access and acquisition.
NBP, based in Newton, Massachusetts, was cited for its publications, programs, and technology innovations that are helping to ensure that braille remains viable and accessible to readers who are blind or visually impaired.
Braille literacy has declined steadily over the past half century due to alternative communications methods, including digital audiobooks, screen readers, and the iPhone -- a device on which NBP has published three braille books, most recently, the iPhone Tactile Screenshot Quick Reference.
