New Merlin HD Video Magnifier

Enhanced Vision's Merlin HD CCTV.

CCTVs continue to evolve. Last week, I told you about the new Optelec Compact 5 HD. This week, another high-definition model debuts: the Merlin HD from Enhanced Vision.

It seems manufacturers are finally realizing what visually impaired consumers have sensed for some time: these assistive devices are great, but shouldn't cost this much.

That's why Enhanced Vision touts its new Merlin as affordable, as well as delivering HD color and contrast. I'm still trying to track down its price, however.

The Merlin, like all desktop video magnifiers, can make reading books, bills, magazines, and maps easier. They are also great aids in the pursuit of hobbies such as needlepoint, crossword puzzles, or coin collecting.

One feature that might improve reading for some users is its monitor (available in 22" and 24" models), which pivots both horizontally and vertically to enable users to find the most comfortable position.

Other Merlin HD features include:

  • HD camera
  • High rez LCD for best image quality
  • Easy-to-use tactile controls
  • LED lighting for truer picture and color
  • 3-year warranty

The Merlin HD is made in America.
