Today I posted an interview with SightTech COO Michael Brooks on where magnification technology is headed.
As SightTech's EyeSight app is designed to turn an iPad into a portable CCTV, Brooks obviously sees an inevitable turn towards mobile devices and away from dedicated video magnifiers -- both desktop and portable.
Hardware makers haven't given up, and I hope to soon post a response from a manufacturer.
In a nutshell, CCTVs from makers such as Optelec boast superior optics and resolution that make sustained reading more comfortable and efficient.
Driving the appeal of magnification apps are a minuscule price point and being another solution (joining book readers, currency identifiers, and GPS) easily enfolded into an iOS device -- an increasingly popular platform among visually impaired users.
